Stress is a normal part of life. Everyone feels at least a little stress from time to time. However, too much stress can take a toll on your body and mind. By adding a few small habits to your daily routine, you can improve your well-being and feel more in control of your life.

Start Your Day Slow

Rushing through your morning is a sure way to start off feeling stressed. Try to slow down and give yourself time to prepare for the upcoming day. Wake up 10 to 15 minutes early to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet. Try incorporating a few gentle stretches into your morning and have a nice cup of coffee, tea or water before you jump into the day’s tasks.

Take Breaks

Sometimes, when you’re feeling extra stressed, it can be hard to remind yourself that you need a break. Even five or ten minutes away from the task at hand can help your mind slow and reset. Step outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air, take a few long, deep breaths or do a quick stretch to help recharge.

Get Active

Getting some sort of physical activity every day is important for your overall well-being, including your mind. You don’t need to spend an hour in the gym or take a fitness class to get active. Simply taking a walk around your neighborhood, dancing to your favorite song or doing whole-body stretches are great ways to get your body moving.

Limit Screen Time

Too much time on social media or watching TV can add to your stress. Whether it’s comparing your life to those you see on Facebook or Instagram or keeping up with current events, it’s good to take a step away from the screen to reset and focus on yourself. Try setting a time limit for your screentime and take frequent breaks away from your phone. Your mind – and eyes – will thank you!

Get Enough Sleep

While being stressed can make it difficult to get restful sleep, it’s important to try and get at least seven to nine hours of rest each night. To help wind down, create a peaceful nighttime routine, like meditating, reading or listening to soothing music.
