HEALTHLINC TO HOST COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIRS TO HELP FAMILIES PREPARE AHEAD OF NEW SCHOOL YEAR

This summer, HealthLinc is hosting community health fairs across northern Indiana to help families prepare for the back-to-school season. All events are open to the public and offer health screenings, well-child checkups and sports physicals along with free food, raffles, giveaways, community resources and family-friendly activities.

Health screenings may vary by location and include blood pressure, blood sugar and hepatitis C screenings, with no appointment needed. Well-child checkups and sports physicals are also available for children. Appointments are encouraged, as spots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Upcoming community health fairs include:

  • July 2 – HealthLinc Newton from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST
  • July 14 – John’s Lutheran Church & School in La Porte from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST
  • July 16 – HealthLinc Michigan City from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. CST
  • July 23 – HealthLinc Valparaiso from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. CST
  • July 28 – East Chicago Boys & Girls Club from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. CST
  • July 31 – HealthLinc Knox from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CST
  • August 6 – HealthLinc Southeast from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. EST

Last year, HealthLinc welcomed more than 1,500 attendees to six health fairs, with even more expected to attend this summer.

“When more than 200 people come to each event, it shows there is a real need in our communities,” Melissa Mitchell, HealthLinc CEO, said. “These fairs are about more than screenings and checkups. They’re about helping families find the care and resources they need, whether that means identifying a health concern early or making sure a child is healthy and ready for school.”

Well-child checkups and sports physicals are also available at the community’s HealthLinc clinic during the week of each event. There is no out-of-pocket cost to patients for these services, although insurance will be billed when applicable.
