The HealthLinc Mobile Integrated Response Teams (MIRT) have expanded into Newton County. MIRT provides no-cost peer recovery support services for individuals struggling with substance use by linking them with resources and support in their journey of recovery.

The expansion is in response to the increase in substance misuse in Northwest Indiana and the need for more recovery resources for individuals and families. According to County Health Rankings, Newton County faces more drug overdose deaths compared to the state average, with 38 deaths per 100,000 people compared to Indiana’s 34 per 100,000.

“The introduction of our Mobile Integrated Response Teams into Newton County ensures that individuals facing addiction challenges receive timely, compassionate peer support where they are,” states Devon Jones, HealthLinc chief behavioral health and addictions officer. “This initiative reflects our commitment to bridging the gap between crisis and care, delivering critical interventions that can save lives and foster long-term recovery.”

Led by certified peer support professionals who are in recovery, this innovative program partners with law enforcement, emergency medical services and other community agencies to identify individuals in the communities who need support. HealthLinc currently has teams in Lake, LaPorte, Porter and Starke counties that can respond to an opioid episode. The HealthLinc MIRT program has assisted over 1,150 individuals since April 2020.
